Child Therapy

Parents know when there is something wrong with their child. Most children have yet to develop language skills to express their worries; they express their worries through behaviors that “speak” for their troubles at home and at school. I meet with parents to support the treatment by offering new ways of listening and responding when children are feeling badly about themselves.

Play therapy is the basic model when treating young children. Through therapeutic play, I help the child put words to feelings to build an emotional vocabulary to communicate sadness, fears and frustrations verbally rather than behaviorally. This helps them make and keep friendships, which leads to greater self-esteem as well as making parenting more enjoyable.

At the heart, play catches hold of the child’s emotional life. It has a creative quality with its improvisational and spontaneous nature, allowing for successive elaboration and capacity for adaptation that can hold beyond the treatment.

  • Family separation/divorce issues

  • Parenting concerns

  • Poor school performance or refusal to attend school

  • Sleeping problems

  • Eating problems

  • Anxiety, fear, worry

  • Out of control behavior

  • Depression

  • Peer problems

My office becomes a therapeutic playground for a child’s fragile feelings. I help children put words to their experience to promote a capacity for self-reflection, which will aid them throughout their psycho-social development.
